INDIA AT
LEELA KEMPINSKI Mumbai

India has always been one of those destinations travelers have in the back of their minds, but don't think they're ready to go just yet. Now the Leela Kempinski Mumbai offers that chance at 50% off their regular rate for minimum 3-night stays through March 31, 2010. You can now reserve a Premier City View room for $182 single/$202 double per night, and if you stay six nights or more, the rate goes even lower to $176-$196 plus discounts on food, beverages and laundry.

This tranquil refuge from the bustle of India’s largest city boasts tropical gardens of palms, mango and banyan trees; 390 expansive rooms and suites; a spa featuring the renowned ESPA products; a large swimming pool; and a gym providing personal trainers. Its prime location…just five minutes from the international airport…is a plus for both leisure and business travelers.

The five-star Leela Kempinski Mumbai provides an ethnic feast at four restaurants: The Great Wall serving Chinese and Singaporean specialties; Stella for Italian dishes; Jamavar featuring authentic Indian cuisine; and Citrus, a 24-hour brasserie. Six Degrees bar is a popular gathering spot for cosmopolitan Mumbaiites. The ornate lobby, with gold touches extending to the domed ceiling, adds that genuine Indian essence, complemented by serenades from sitar players that definitely put guests in the right mood.  www.theleela.com

      NOW IN ORLANDO

This legendary hotel brand just arrived in Orlando as the first newly built Waldorf Astoria since the original in New York City. Although its stunning Bonnet Creek location is surrounded on three sides by Walt Disney World Resort, the luxury hotel operates in its own elegant fashion.

All 497 guest rooms, including 169 suites, are spacious sanctuaries designed for relaxation and privacy. Many have balconies overlooking the panoramic grounds and Bonnet Creek. The celebrated Waldorf restaurants have traveled south as well: Peacock Alley, Bull & Bear Steakhouse, Oscar’s, Sir Harry’s Lounge and Aquamarine. Peacock Alley, dominating the heart of the main lobby, features small-plate cuisine. Spa by Guerlain offers 23 indoor and 6 outdoor treatment areas, a relaxation lounge, healthy foods and juices, plus signature spa apparel.

One amenity that is not New York-inspired is the Rees Jones designed championship 18-hole golf course, first ever on a Waldorf Astoria property. The Golf Package is a great value. With rates starting at $239 per night, guests enjoy unlimited golf and a $20 resort credit per person to use for dining, spa and other activities. www.waldorfastoriaorlando.com

QUEBEC’S CHARMING INNS

Superior accommodations, fine regional cuisine and immersion in the local culture are the advantages of vacationing at any of Quebec Resorts & Country Inns’ picturesque locations. Members commit to engaging locally, involving special tours to observe cheese making, visit honey hives, see how paper is made and other traditional pursuits. Choice locales all around Quebec Province cover city streets, parklands and rural settings. Rates are quite reasonable for value given. Here are my observations on those I've visited.

Le Manoir du Lac Delage, one of the largest at 103 rooms and suites, suggests ‘cozy’ in spite of its size. Quebec City is a half hour away. Kayaking on the lake, an indoor heated pool with outdoor views, and an intimate spa add to the ambience.

canada beer innsAt Auberge Falaises, within view of the river in Charlevoix, my fireplace warmed me on September nights. Nightly menus included local seafood and agricultural products. I played golf, visited the local museum, and met a trend-setting scupltor at a very friendly art gallery in a residential house. Manoir Richelieu Casino is nearby. A stop at Baie St. Paul introduced me to Charlevoix’s own mini brewery. (photo)

The spa at Auberge Godefroy worked out my travel kinks with a Vichy shower massage. Adjacent Godefroy Ecological Park's woodland walking trail becomes an ice-skating path in winter, complete with fairy lights at night.

Auberge du Lac Saint Pierre, on the St. Lawrence, served the best fettuccini alfredo I’ve ever eaten. Gallant, in the heart of horse country, has a unique sugar shack and gives tours of its maple syrup operation. In Gatineau Park near Ottawa,  Wakefield Mill still retains a gentrified mill look inside and out, accompanied by a rushing river of waterfalls and rapids. Quite romantic and picturesque.
